ROSELLE/ROSELLE PARK, NJ - The Rotary Club of Roselle - Roselle Park celebrated 111 Years of Rotary and 93 years locally this past Wednesday at Wei’s Buffet in Roselle.

With the creation of Rotary International on February 23,1905, the club remains very active today working on projects locally from the Dictionary Project, Back Pack Program, Boys Scouts/Girl Scouts to the Student of the Month recognition. Rotary also offers vocational scholarships and career days.

Roselle Park Mayor Carl Hokanson presented the club with a resolution in honor of the  93 years of service in both communities. Rotary Club Historian Jim Simmons, spoke about the history of the club, once considered a mens club that has changed with the times and the importance that women play in the organization today.

As recently reported on TAPinto, the Girl Scouts and Rotary members met to discuss  what role the club can play in Roselle's Camp Letico's rehabilitation

During the celebration, Roselle Mayor Christine Dansereau told the group that she had done a title search and invited the members to come to the March 16, borough meeting at 7:00 pm at Roselle Borough Hall where a resolution will be read giving the Girls Scouts a 99 year lease on Camp Letico which is nestled in a wooded area next to Morses Creek near Independence Drive in Roselle.

A Rotary official wrote on their Facebook site, "We thank all who attended our "Rotary Means Business" Meeting and 93rd Anniversary Celebration, especially Roselle Mayor Christine Dansereau and Roselle Park Mayor Carl Hokanson!! We also thank Jim Simmons, Club Historian, for presenting the history of the club's achievements over its 93 years of service. May your support strengthen our club, making it able to continue its community service for 93 more years.”

On a larger level, being the worlds oldest service club organization, Rotary International works on humanitarian services around the globe. More information on Rotary can be found by clicking here.
